GIROVELA 2010. THIS YEAR THE REGATTA TURNS PINK.
The 22nd edition of the Italian Regatta organised by Cino Ricci will depart from Porto Rose. The Treviso Sailing Club has placed its bet entirely on the technical capability and affability of the girls in the excellent crew manning the Gran Moravia Treviso.
In the first stage, the girls coordinate the manoeuvres around the buoys and, as well as being beautiful to look at, they are also exceptionally adept in manoeuvring and handling this difficult vessel, which is also not well known. Very few marginal mistakes, no yelling and lots of broad smiles.
They manage very well, even if they are unlucky to end up in a wind hole from which it would be difficult to recover. In this case, they pay slightly for a lack of physicality that is very important on the Giro 34, but all the crews congratulate them on their excellent performance.
The message that Gran Moravia-Treviso wants to give is strong and decisive: “The dairy sector can and must take action to make a truly eco-sustainable product. A yacht is certainly an environment-friendly vehicle that travels in the most uncontaminated nature, using only the clean energy of the wind. What better way to support a truly sustainable cheese? On what broader space than the sea can the cow printed on the sides of the Gran Moravia G34 happily graze, to remember the healthy cows that graze in the open air on the vast pristine pastures in Moravia.
The message must be promoted by women, who are today the protagonists of society, as mothers and wives, but also career women and excellent sailors.” And after a few days our female crew receive their just reward.
In fact, luck turns the tables in Ancona, which hosts a particular event as part of the Giro Vela, a match race on the Melges 24, lightweight and very technical boats on which the lower weight of the girls is no longer a handicap.
Here the female Gran Moravia Treviso crew can prove what it is worth. The challenge was between Gran Moravia Treviso and the several time winner of the Giro Vela, Riva del Garda.
The girls calmly and deftly bring home a 2 – 0 match result, hence avoiding the third match. Now we look forward to the Nettuno stage, where our crew will also challenge the other seven squads. In the intermediate stages Gran Moravia Treviso is always a major player given the message it promotes and the beauty of the yacht’s outfitting and the attractive uniforms worn by the crew. At the moment the high level of technical skill of the competitors does not allow the team to achieve the desired results, but they too will arrive before long.
